Yes I can drive a standard car.
I would like to clarify a few things for people who don't live in North America on why so many don't drive Standard. Most cars today can't be had with a standard and even it's available you'd be hard pressed to find one, most dealer lots don't stock them. Certain cars have them but most don't offer it in higher trim levels so your stuck with automatic if you want a nicer car ex: Lexus IS, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Accord, many Hyundai's. Theres many more that just don't offer it at all. So if you do really want one then you either have to look everywhere or settle for less options and for most that's simply not worth. Case in point is my Dad who drove a Standard Volvo S40 for almost 2 years but didn't like it because it didn't have half of the features higher volvo's have and it didn't feel as solid. In end he bought a S60 AWD loaded because features are more important than transmission. While I don't have car I would be same way I care more about how nice the car is then what type of transmission it has.

Ever since they made the name the iPad, and making it an exclusive iOS device, I have been predicting a MacPad, with a hybrid OS. But this makes way more sense for a first hybrid OS product.

Does Consumer Reports stop recommending automobile purchases? Because you know if there is an issue with a car, the manufacturer will issue a recall. If you are affected, you have to take it into a dealer where it will be fixed. The onus is on the owner of the car, for crying out loud! The auto manufacturers should go house to house providing the fix for free to all cars, whether their owners report a problem or not!

Hmm, maybe we are thinking of two different things. How is this going to maintain a protected path? How would Apple keep us from grabbing the stream as it is being sent to the GPU (to be shown on the screen)? That is the part I am thinking of, that is what HDCP/DPCP is supposed to prevent. If we are sending data down the PCIe side then how is it being protected from snooping?
I've always found this obsession the industry has with "protected path" incredibly hilarious, because NO ONE in the piracy scene actually rips media from the video driver stream in any way, shape or form.
Ripping is typically done directly from the media; the actual h.264 or MPEG video is decrypted from the disc and saved without even "playing" it the traditional way. It's always been that way since the days of DVDs; no serious pirate back then ripped from component or S-video jacks either.
Why the media industry is so incredibly obsessed with protecting a path nobody actually rips from is beyond my understanding. It's like stationing an armed guard at your back door when all the robberies have happened through the front. In fact, I've never seen consumer equipment that can "record" a DVI stream.

Multiply by 8 to convert to bits, then if you have (say) a 1Mbps connection, the math is easy peasy.

Put it in the Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro 17" and I'm all over it. Would still like to see if HD-DVD prevails.
Now, I have a plasma hdtv that'll "do" 1080i and a dvd player that can output and upscale (if needed) to 1080i--can I burn 1080i sources and play the BR disk in my dvd player OR will I also need a BR player to view HD video? 25gb per side is a nice chunk o' storage though.

You'll neet a blu ray player. A non blu-ray dvd player does not have the correct laser to read a blu ray disc.

Ooh. Thought you were talking about the installs for both previews. I installed developer preview 2 over the first, so I didn't realize. It still doesn't sound very accurate to me.

I saw the commercial debut live during the Butler-VCU game and loved it right away! Awesome job by the :apple: Marketing Group. It captures the essence of the product and the emotional attachment we get with it. Bravo! :D
